Windows 2000 Settings
Dial-up Connection Settings
Here are the Shentel Internet settings for Windows 2000 computers.
If you experience problems with your connection, you may need to do
additional configuration. Follow the steps below:
- From your start-up screen on the desktop, click the 'Start' button.
- Select 'Settings'.
- Select 'Network and Dial-up Connections'.
- Right click on the Shentel icon, select 'Properties'.

On the General tab:
Connect using: Your modem should be listed here.
Area code: If not greyed out, this area will contain your local area code. Do not enter a "1" before area code or long distances charges will be billed by your long distance carrier. Customers will be responsible for any applicable long distance charges if this occurs.
Phone number: Your local access number should be listed here.

- At the Shentel Properties window, click on the 'Options' tab at the top.
- Of the four dialing options, only the third, 'Include Windows logon domain', should not be checked.
- At the Shentel Properties window, click the 'Networking' tab at the top.
Type of dial-up server I am calling: PPP: Windows 95/98/NT4/2000, Internet
- Click on the 'Settings'.
- Of the three options, only 'Negotiate multi-link for single-link connection', should not be checked.
- Click on 'OK'.
- Back at the Shentel Properties window, components checked are used for this connection.
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Client for Microsoft Networks
- Click 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' once to highlight it then click 'Properties'.
- The 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties' window will display. There should be a colored dot next to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.
- There should also be a colored dot next to 'Always use the following'.
Preferred DNS Server:204.111.1.35 Alternate DNS Server:204.111.1.36
- Click on 'OK' to return to the Networking tab/Properties screen.
- Click on 'OK' to return to Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Close Network and Dial-up Connections.
