Windows 98 Settings
Dial-up Connection Settings
Here are the Shentel Internet settings for Windows 98 computers.
- Start on the desktop.
- Double click on 'My Computer'.
- Double click on 'Dial-Up Networking'. You should have 'Make New Connection' and Shentel icon.
- Right click on the Shentel icon.
- Left click on 'Properties'.
- On General tab, check phone number and type of modem.
- Click 'Server Types' tab at top. The only ones checked should be: 'Enable Software Compression' and 'TCP/IP'.
- Click on the 'TCP/IP Settings' bar. The only ones with a dot should be the first and fourth circles; 'Server Assigned IP Address' and 'Specify Name Server Addresses'.
- Primary DNS number is: 204.111.1.35
- Secondary DNS number is: 204.111.1.36
- Wins are all zeros. Use IP Header. Use Default.
- Click 'OK'.
- Click 'OK'.
- Close Dial-Up Networking.
- Double click on 'My Computer'.
- Double click on 'Control Panel'.
- Double click on 'Network'.

Under 'The following network components are installed'.
- Click once on: 'TCP/IP' dial-up adapter.
- Click on 'Properties'.
- Click 'OK' on the message screen. ('You have asked...' if it appears.)
- Click 'DNS Configuration' tab at top. Put a dot next to 'Disable DNS'.
- Click 'WINS Configuration' tab at top. Put a dot next to 'Disable Wins Resolution'.
- Click 'OK'.
- Click 'OK'.
- Restart Computer.
