Shentel Internet Set-up Instructions - Windows 95
Before beginning set-up, please be sure to read all information below to ensure an
accurate set-up of your Shentel Internet connection.
- From your start-up screen on the desktop click the 'Start' button.
- Select 'Programs'.
- Select 'Accessories'.
- Internet tools: Choose 'Get on the Internet' or 'Internet Set-up Wizard'.
- At the Get Connected screen click 'Next'.
- Set-up options will be the next screen, and you should select 'Manual', click 'Next'.
- Welcome to Internet Set-up is an informational screen, click 'Next'.
- How to connect: Select 'connect using my phone line', click 'Next'.
- Service provider: Type in shentel, click 'Next'.

Phone number: Choose the number below that is local to your telephone service area. To determine the local number in your service area, consult your telephone directory.
Do not enter a '1' before area code or long distances charges will be billed by your long distance carrier. Customers will be responsible for any applicable long distance charges if this occurs.

- The country code should automatically default to United States of America (1), make sure there is not a check in 'bring up terminal window...' click 'Next'.
- The next screen will prompt you for your username and password. These both need to be entered in lowercase without spaces before or throughout.
- Click 'Next'.
- IP address: Select 'my Internet service provider automatically assigns me one' click 'Next'.
- DNS server address: The primary DNS server is 204.111.1.35 and the alternate DNS is 204.111.1.36, click 'Next'.
- Internet mail: There should be a check in the box beside 'use Internet mail'. You will need to enter your email address (your user name ending with @shentel.net) and the Internet mail server is pop.shentel.net, click 'Next'.
- Windows messaging profile: There should be a check in the box beside 'use this profile when starting Windows Messaging or Microsoft Exchange' click 'Next'.
- Complete configuration: Click 'Finish'.
- Double click My Computer and then Dial-Up Networking. Click with the right mouse button on the Shentel icon and select 'create shortcut' answer Yes to the message that begins 'you cannot place a shortcut...'. When establishing your connection you should double click on this icon to get connected then open your browser.
Note: Some versions of Windows 95 may prompt you to set up your mail program; however, if you need additional assistance call technical support. For your mail application you will be asked the outgoing mail server which is smtp.shentel.net and the incoming mail or POP3 server which is pop.shentel.net. Your account name is your username without the @shentel.net and your password is the same password you use to log on.
