Mac Set-Up Instructions

Welcome to Shentel Internet!

Before beginning set-up, please be sure to read all information below to ensure an accurate set-up of your Shentel Internet connection.

1. Click on the apple in the upper left-hand corner.
2. Click on 'Internet Access'.
3. Click on 'Internet Set-up Assistant'.
4. Welcome screen: click on 'Yes'.
5. Do you already have an Internet account? Click 'Yes'.
6. Introduction screen: Click the 'Right Arrow' at the bottom right side of screen.
7. Configuration name: Type "Shentel".
8. How will you be connecting to the Internet? Choose 'modem'.
9. Click the 'Right Arrow'.
10. Modem settings: Your modem should be selected.
11. Does your phone line use tone or pulse? Choose 'Tone'.
12. Click the 'Right Arrow'.
13. Access phone number: Type in the number below that is local to your telephone service area. To determine the local number in your service area, consult your telephone directory.
    
    

    Do not enter a '1' before area code or long distances charges will be billed by your long distance carrier. Customers will be responsible for any applicable long distance charges if this occurs.

14. Log-in name or user ID: Letters must be entered in lowercase, no spaces before or throughout.
15. Password: Letters must be entered in lowercase, no spaces before or throughout.
16. Click on 'Right Arrow'.
17. 'PPP' connect scripts: Choose 'No'.
18. Click on 'Right Arrow'.
19. IP address: Choose No.
20. Click on 'Right Arrow'.
21. Under Domain Name Servers Address, type:
    • 204.111.1.35
    • 204.111.1.36
22. At domain name nothing needs to be entered.
23. Click on 'Right Arrow'.
24. Address: Enter your username@shentel.net. For example: johnb@shentel.net.
25. Password: Enter password as given above in lowercase letters with no spaces.
26. Click on 'Right Arrow'.
27. E-mail account and host computer, enter the following:
    • For Incoming Mail Server: username@pop.shentel.net.
    • For Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.shentel.net.
28. Click on 'Right Arrow'.
29. Newsgroups, enter the following:
    • For News Server: news.shentel.net.
    • Click on 'Right Arrow'.
    • Proxies: Choose 'No'.
    • Click on 'Right Arrow'.
    • Go Ahead.
