Mac 8.5 Set-Up Instructions
Welcome to Shentel Internet!
Before beginning set-up, please be sure to read all information below to ensure an accurate set-up of your Shentel Internet connection.
- Double click on 'Hard Drive.'
- Double click on 'Internet.'
- Double click on 'Internet Set-up Assistant.'
- At the welcome screen click on 'Yes.'
- At 'Do you already have an Internet account?' click 'Yes.'
- At the introduction screen click the right arrow in the bottom right side of screen.

At 'Configuration Name' type Shentel.
At 'How will you be connecting to the Internet?" choose 'Modem.'
Click the right arrow.

At 'Modem Settings' your modem should be selected.
At 'Does your phone line use tone or pulse?' choose 'Tone.'
Click the right arrow.

At 'Phone Number' type in the number from below that is local to your telephone service area. To determine the local number in your service area, consult your telephone directory.
Do not enter a '1' before the area code or long distance charges will be billed by your long distance carrier. Customers will be responsible for any applicable long distance charges if this occurs.

Enter username and password.
These both need to be entered in lower case without spaces before or throughout.
Click on right arrow.

At 'PPP Connect Scripts' choose 'No.'
Click on right arrow.

At 'IP address' choose 'No.'
Click on right arrow.

At 'Domain Name Servers', under 'DNS address' type:
204.111.1.35 and hit 'Return.'
204.111.1.36
At 'Domain Name' nothing needs to be entered.
Click on right arrow.

At your e-mail address type your 'username'@shentel.net. For example, john@shentel.net.
At password type your password in lowercase without spaces before or throughout.
Click on right arrow.

At 'E-mail Account and Host Computer', enter the following:
For Incoming Mail Server: username@pop.shentel.net
For Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.shentel.net
Click on right arrow.

At 'Newsgroups', enter the following:
For News Server: news.shentel.net
Click on right arrow.

At 'Proxies' choose 'No.'
Click on right arrow.
- 'Go Ahead.' You can check information by choosing "Show Details" and then clicking on "Go Ahead."
