Closed Circuit TV
Closed Circuit Television
A Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) System is a security system that uses cameras and
other equipment to provide surveillance. It allows a business to monitor more than one
location at a time and to monitor situations without human presence in the exact vicinity.
CCTV systems have been proven to:
- Deter criminal activity.
- Promote the feeling of a safe and secure work environment.
- Discourage trespassing.
- Reduce the cost of uniform security.
- Provide evidence for activities occurring on your property.
- Reduce civil liability.
- Reduce vandalism of property.
The locations where cameras can be used and purposes for monitoring a premises are limitless.
Common locations include retail application to reduce shoplifting and internal theft; parking
lots to provide improved protection and reduce vandalism; and warehouse or manufacturing locations
to reduce internal theft and improve employee security. Some studies indicate that just the
presence of a CCTV system can reduce the incidence of crime in a covered location by 95%.
As with any security system, CCTV can be as simple or as complex as the occasion warrants. A very basic
system will consist of camera(s) with lenses and a monitor. If recording is needed for later viewing
of events, a time-lapse recorder or digital recorder can be added. Additional equipment is also available
to record and view multiple cameras and to view from remote locations.
The equipment provided to construct a CCTV system is extremely varied and the options for cameras
and recording are numerous, so each system is specifically customized. Shentel provides free surveys
to determine a customer's exact needs for cameras, lenses, monitoring, and recording needs and works
