New Construction

Building a Home or Commercial Building?

Let us help you and/or your building contractor keep telephone, cable television, and security system installations on schedule by:
  • Notifying Shenandoah Telephone Company well in advance of the construction. Please have the following information:

    • Your property address or name.
    • The name and address of the nearest neighbor.
    • If your property is in a subdivision, please give us the name of the subdivision, street name, and lot number.

  • Keeping in touch with Shenandoah Telephone Company during the construction process.

Preparation

When preparing for new construction you should notify Miss Utility at 800-552-7001 before cutting a driveway, digging perk holes, or doing any other type of digging on the property, even if no construction will be done in the near future.

After applying for your building permit, call a service representative at 984-5224 to discuss what services you will be requiring at the new construction site. Shenandoah Telephone Company will then proceed to install cable to the pedestal at your property line if it has not already been done. We will then coordinate with you and/or your building contractor to install the cable at the construction site at the appropriate time.

Installation

The installation of routine telephone services and facilities will average one week from the time of the initial order. More complex installations may require up to 30 days.

Temporary Service

Notes:
  • The conduit should be installed by the customer under decks and patios, to insure access if replacement wiring is necessary at a later date.

  • If you require three or more lines now or in the future, please request a larger cable at the beginning of construction.

  • If, for security reasons, you prefer your phone line to come into the house underground instead of running to an exterior mounted telephone protector, Shenandoah Telephone Company will utilize the customer-installed conduit.

Inside Wiring

  • Basic inside wiring and standard jacks that are not connected in a customer-owned PBX or key system may be provided by either the Telephone Company or the customer.

  • If the customer elects to install the inside wiring and/or standard jack, the installation must be in accordance with the technical standards of the Telephone Company which have been filed with the State Corporation Commission (SCC).

  • Should the customer request Shenandoah Telephone Company to install the inside wiring, the customer will be charged accordingly.

Security System

For installation of a Shentel Security System, you or your building contractor should coordinate with a Shentel sales representative at (540) 984-5353, Opt. 3.
